Dedicated to her horse and the equestrian sports she loves, Moscow junior Kassidy Woody would enjoy nothing more than turning her passion into a future career. "I really want to go to vet school, specialize in equine science and one day run my own equine sports center," she says. For most high school students, this might be a pipe dream, but young Kassidy has the experience, work ethic, and drive to make it happen.
She began riding horses at age five and has shown at 4-H horse events for the past 9 years. Kassidy is a member of the Palouse Hills Pony Club and has had many doors open due to her involvement in the club. "Pony Club has allowed me to go to camp and meet great teachers," she says. “I’ve learned so much while being a part of Pony Club.” She will compete at the United States Pony Club Festival of Champions in Kentucky this summer and competes in local and regional shows throughout the northwest. Kassidy enjoys sharing her love of riding with her mother. “It was my mom who encouraged me to ride at such a young age,” she says. “Now she’s my biggest supporter and helps me get better by video recording my lessons.”
While horses are Kassidy's primary passion, she is also a volleyball player at Moscow High School and through a local club program. When she finds the time, she likes to go hunting and fishing with her dad and spend time outdoors.
Kassidy isn't content to simply play it safe doing activities she already excels at and continues to find ways to push herself and try new things. A recent example of this was competing in the Moscow Distinguished Young Woman Program. "It was definitely outside of my comfort zone, It scared me a lot but it pushed me too," she says. "There wasn’t a horse to hide behind. It was all on me." Her favorite portions of the program were the interview and the self-expression sections, although making new friends was by far the most memorable part of the whole experience. "I loved the group of girls in DYW and didn’t even care who won because everyone was so sweet."
Armed with the encouragement of friends and family and her own good attitude and drive to succeed, Kassidy Woody is sure to meet and exceed any goal she sets for herself in the future.♦
